Curry in the Cloud - Debate
Too Many Standards Will Smother the Cloud
5:30 - 8:30PM
Preem & Prithi Bangladeshi Restaurant, 124-126 Brick Lane, E1 6RL
There are binders full of standards directed at the Cloud. Is this the way to make the Cloud more mature, reliable, mainstream? A cornerstone of the European Commission Cloud Strategy is talking of mandating standards, certification, models and regulation, is this right - or should they laissez faire?
By hosting this debate as part of an enjoyable networking evening over a curry supper, we are making the serious business of listening to the views and opinions of our members and associates pleasant, informative and entertaining.
- Andy Burton, Chairman Cloud Industry Forum and CEO of Fasthosts Internet has kindly agreed to lead the proposition of the motion:
This House Believes Too Many Standards Will Smother the Cloud
STOP PRESS!: Now Dr Richard Sykes has joined the fray and will be adding his gravitas, eloquence and experience to the Proposing team - this should be awesome!
-
Leader of the opposition is Phil Wainewright, EuroCloud UK Chair, ZDNet blogger and well-known cloud evangelist. Phil is delighted to be supported by
-
Michael Queenan, Co-Founder and Director of Nephos Technologies, one of the UK’s first independent Cloud Service Brokers.
Each of these knowledgeable exponents trade daily in the bear-pit of Trust in the Cloud and bring this practical knowledge to argue with or echo in support of EU Digital Agenda commissioner Neelie Kroes who in her European Cloud Strategy announcement on 27 September presages what is to come: "... standards and certification will help users evaluate and compare services, and know which ones to trust.."
Who has your vote?
- The Table Speeches will be informative and entertaining - but the most important contribution is going to be informally from The Floor. All those who want to join the argument, comment or make observation are invited to join-in and will have ample time to do so.
-
This novel format is built around our normal, convivial, social networking event where the real deal of business in the UK Cloud scene is discussed, news is shared, alliances made and introductions created.
Ticket prices include a set menu of chicken curry and side dishes, there is a cash bar.
This is the latest of our regular EuroCloud UK events -- all free to members. See our website for more details.
With specific thanks and welcome to our colleagues in the Cloud Industry Forum, with whom we are jointly promoting this event.
